Concept Design

Geometry Definition (NMG)

We have the ability to create a mathematical model equipped with a set of controls or design variables to design variety of airframe shapes in response to changes in the values of these variables. Our modes are flexible and concise, and capable of yielding a wide range of shapes with a minimum number of design variables. More importantly, our process of converting these variables into aircraft geometries are robust. We address Geometry and Optimization problems by navigating the subtle trade-offs between the competing objectives of geometry parameterization. We begin with fundamentals of geometry-centered aircraft design, followed by a review of the building blocks of computational geometries, the curve and surface formulations as the heart of aircraft geometry. Our subject matter experts have decades of experience that cover a range of legacy formulations in the build-up towards the most flexible shape models for the next generation aerodynamic design with a focus on lift generating surfaces.

Layout Design

Whether it’s a small single-engine husky or a massive jumbo jet, we have the ability to provide comprehensive design capabilities including conceptual design, preliminary design and the detail design. In addition to our capabilities related to aerodynamics, propulsion, performance, structural systems, control systems and more, our designers have expertise in the design of aircraft’s fuselage, wing location, engine size, floor layouts and more. We cover all the details including identification of different stations of an aircraft, type of aircraft for a given mission requirement, landing gear arrangement etc.

Space Allocation

We give utmost importance for packaging, as this is a critical part of any space allocation design process. We have extensive experience in packaging every major system, sub-system, and its associated hundreds of parts in the most optimum way. At the concept stage, we take care of GDnT, interfaces, system packaging at the aircraft level. Our systematic approach helps in identifying the appropriate electric harness, wire and any other auxiliary power and systems requirements to complete the most effective space allocation.

GA / Structural Arrangement

At QuantumPoint, we have the required experience and expertise in designing variety of aircraft structures including Truss Structure often used in lightweight aircrafts, either made typically using welded steel tube trusses or made of wood, Geodesic Structures, Monocoque and Semi-Monocoque structures to name a few. Also, our designers and engineers are equally competent in designing several categories of aircraft structures including Fixed-wing Airplanes, Rotorcraft, Gliders, and Lighter-than-air vehicles etc.

Station Diagram

Whether a military aircraft or a commercial aircraft, we have the ability to design multi stations from front to back. Our approach is to classify each station into primary, secondary at the structure level and any relevant system associated with it. At this stage, we create a detailed station diagram as a concept design of any aircraft. This approach will act as our primary base to conclude the detailed design.

Interference / Kinematics

Our design strategy is to ensure both packaging and integration of various elements of the aircraft are properly taken care of during the concept design stage. Whether a sub-system or between sub-systems or the entire aircraft itself, we make sure no interfaces exist between each part including nuts and rivets. Our proven approach ensures ease of assembly, with minimum concessions during the manufacturing stage and subsequently for the creation of a useful clean digital mockup (DMU) of the aircraft and its sub-systems. At this phase, we take care of any design changes as required appropriately to ensure that there is no interface exists between any parts at the assembly stage.

Material Selection

We have the passion and technical know-how to work with a variety of aircraft materials including metal or non-metal and their combinations. Our subject matter experts have spent decades analyzing a variety of materials, material mechanics, their failure, damage , and application to a variety of aircraft and their structures and systems. At the concept phase, we analyze and work with composites of various kinds, their layups, and orientations for an effective material selection.

Together we can do more. Feel free to say hello.
